#FronteraDispatch Internship 

The Hope Border Institute (HOPE) seeks highly motivated college and graduate students committed to social justice to join the #FronteraDispatch editorial team. The #FronteraDispatch is HOPE’s weekly take on the conversation about border issues and immigration from a borderlands perspective, reaching thousands of people each week. 

 

The #FronteraDispatch Intern will:

  • Learn and develop a personal understanding of immigration and border policy

  • Curate relevant published news at the intersection of immigration, border, and faith issues

  • Participate in editorial meetings to determine the Dispatch’s priorities 

  • Draft –as appropriate–, translate and review the Dispatch before publication 

 

Ideal candidates will: 

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or are graduate students

  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, innovatively and creatively

  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills

  • Temperament to work in a dynamic and fast-paced immigration policy landscape

  • Great sense of humor and a can-do attitude

  • Knowledge or openness to Catholic social teaching

  • Passion and commitment to working for justice

  • Bilingual candidates in English and Spanish are preferred but not required

 

This internship is fully remote and requires 5-10 hours per week. #FronteraDispatch interns report to the Policy and Research team at HOPE. 

 

Compensation 

Interns that are fully-funded by their universities, either through coursework or scholarships, are encouraged.

Communications Internship 

The Hope Border Institute (HOPE) seeks highly motivated college and graduate students committed to social justice to join the team as our next Communications Intern. 

 

The Communications intern will:

  • Support HOPE’s social media strategy, designing posts, editing messaging and uploading content

  • Provide support for communications tasks for in-person and online events, including crafting and designing programs, taking pictures and videos and hospitality

  • Support HOPE’s emailing strategy, creating contact databases, managing new registrants, aiding during the #FronteraDispatch publication process and brainstorming messaging for fundraising campaigns

  • Support the Communications Officer with other strategic communications and fundraising tasks as assigned.

 

Ideal candidates will have: 

  • Completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or are current graduate students

  • The ability to work independently, collaboratively, innovatively and creatively

  • Interest and/or some past experience in communications, social media or related areas

  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms

  • Great sense of humor and a can-do attitude

  • Knowledge of or openness to Catholic social teaching

  • Passion and commitment to working for justice

  • Knowledge of Canva and other design programs, as well as Mailchimp and Substack, is preferred 

  • Bilingual candidates in English and Spanish are preferred 

  • Candidates based in El Paso (TX) are preferred 

  • Ability to cross the US-Mexico border is preferred but not required

 

This internship is hybrid in El Paso (TX) and requires 15 hours per week, with some in-person and occasional weekend work required. The Communications Intern reports to the Communications Officer at HOPE. 

 

Compensation 

Fully funded internships offered by universities, either through coursework/academic credit or scholarship support, are preferred. If hybrid, reimbursement of local transportation costs and other costs related to the internship will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
